Written Argumentation

Written Argumentation was developed at the Computer Writing and Research Laboratory at the University of Texas. It used Hypercard to create a series of tutorials guiding students through sample texts as a way of introducing them to the Toulmin method of developing arguments. Some highlights:

The program offered guided heuristics, providing information about Toulmin logic, and then prompting users with questions to test their knowledge.

A number of sample arguments were developed. The sample arguments served to illustrate the Toulmin method and provided the bases for the heuristic prompts.
